Which reminds me . . .

Madeleine, might I commission some brownies for Thanksgiving? I'm not sure
what I might be able to trade for them, but yours are the closest thing
I've ever come across to the ones that used to be made by a woman at the
Bethesda Farm Womens' Market.

She also made the most wonderful Jamaican meat pastries and on Saturday
mornings Earl -- my father -- used to pick up one of each for every member
of the family. Unfortunately her success drove her into retirement as she
developed severe carpal tunnel syndrome, although until the folks moved to
Southern Maryland nearly full time Earl would still drive out to her farm
to get the Thanksgiving turkey.
