About half the times that I get back to the Washington area have
something to do with politics.  It looks like I'll be up there again for
the inaugural.  Right now I'm trying to find a reasonable, decent hotel
in D. C. or close to the Metro that would block about 80 rooms for the
Texas county chairmen's association at prices that aren't jacked through
the roof.  I've seen amazing changes in normal rates for the January
17th to departure on the 21st.  One hotel had a $79 price for Monday the
17th and a $600 per day price thereafter.  I haven't been able to find
anything in D. C. for under $250 a night for those dates.  Is there
anything there, or should I be content with New Carrollton, Bethesda,
Falls Church, etc.?  Has anyone got any ideas (along with phone numbers
to call)?  I also need a frank assessment of hotels since nobody wants
to stay at a dump.--Tom Haughey
