I remember being disappointed in Lord Darcy stories
because the villians and characters weren't very real.
Mike is right about "Too many magicians", it was a
gimmick that with all the magicians around no magic was
used. I thought they did magic for some of the short
stories, but only for circumstantial evidence. It still
seemed like Lord Darcy waived his hands around and voila
the villian popped up.
Wasn't his side kick a forensic sorceror?
