LAURA ANNE GILMAN, AUTHOR OF STAYING DEAD, ON DECEMBER EPISODE OF
FAST FORWARD.

Author and editor Laura Anne Gilman is interviewed on this month's
episode of Fast Forward: Contemporary Science Fiction. Gilman talks
about her contemporary fantasy mystery novel, Staying Dead.

In conversation with host Mike Zipser, Gilman discusses the challenge
of constructing a contemporary world where magic exists. According to
Gilman, "The way I think of world building, everything has to make
perfect sense. You can't have a magic that just sort of happens to
work. There has to be a practical reason for it."

The December episode of Fast Forward also features Colleen Cahill's
review of the science fiction picture book Fillmore and Geary Take
Off!, written by Mark Shulman and illustrated by Phillip Fickling.

In addition, there is a special report this month - a memorial
appreciation of actor Ed Kemmer, who portrayed Commander Buzz Corry
on the 1950s television series Space Patrol.
