"Elspeth said there is a tradeoff between function space cost and hotel
room costs. We could probably get the hotel to lower the room rate if we
agree to pay more for function space. She estimated that by paying $10,000
for function space we could get them to drop the room rate to $115."

Did I say $10,000 at that point?  If so, I misspoke.  More like $8,000.
