Although Dan, if around, might have some objections to folks meddling with his design -- after we separated upon finding that it was being used on the website he made noises about copyright but abruptly subsided when I referred him to Alexis with his expertise in cartoons being copied freely around fandom -- he left WSFA some years back and no one has been able to contact him, including me. So if anyone has control over the image I guess I'm it. While I'll cheerfully use that to egregiously back my own opinions the focus there is 'egregious' and 'opinion': I hereby cede the image to WSFA. Concerning the text, I asked about it and was given the "the text is being projected onto the logo" argument. I'm equally comfortable with this and it being on the circle and thus needing to be obscured by the rocket. For the record, though, it wasn't that Dan didn't get around to putting the text behind the rocket, it was that upon being asked about it he came up with the first as an explanation and after that I never pushed on the subject. Concerning color, Dan was and presumably still is colorblind: those on the rocket-capital dome image were supplied by other folks in whatever office he was working in at the time. When the logo was first shown to me I didn't care for the lavender but it worked for the flyer. I think that Ernest's cream or pale yellow doesn't provide enough contrast to the other colors but that may mean that the color of the nose cone, circle, the shadow of the rocket, etc. should be reviewed to see how they work together. The fact that the Capital steps don't line up is going to always bug me -- is that nitpicking or something that can be fixed? I think that Gayle and (my porous memory has lost her husband's name. Paul Haggerdy?) have expressed interest in doing the only thing that Keith can't, which is layout and graphics. Keith doesn't do the visual presentation of data or work with it well but is absolutely the best in the sf community when gathering and handling data itself, and getting it up online -- I think that we may be the first club where our ongoing publication is not only online but searchable, and I don't know any that go back so far. As a result, we have the best data backbone around. Can the three of you, with input from Wade, Ernest, Michael Nelson, and whomever else is appropriate, discuss a basic redesign, with first attention to the Capclave pages? Me, I want the logo modified and loaded as I dislike the reminder of what it evokes and am startled every time someone uses it in a hotel proposal, but just getting something up without the lavender will help and I'd rather we focus on more important things than the color of some graphics.
