Any ferry that is too large to be considered a "boat" (ie, can be carried
aboard a larger vessel) is a ship.  "Ferry" is descriptive of purpose, in  the
same way that "Tanker" and "Barge Carrier" are.  A ferry differs from,  say, a
cruise ship, in that it is considered a link in a larger  transportation
system, rather than a destination in and of itself.

I'd forgotten about those ferries, but after all the money and labor I've
invested in flotation tanks for the car, I'll have to stick to my original plan
for driving to Scotland.
