At what point does a "ferry" become "a ship"??? Any ferry that is too large to be considered a "boat" (ie, can be carried aboard a larger vessel) is a ship. "Ferry" is descriptive of purpose, in the same way that "Tanker" and "Barge Carrier" are. A ferry differs from, say, a cruise ship, in that it is considered a link in a larger transportation system, rather than a destination in and of itself. I'd forgotten about those ferries, but after all the money and labor I've invested in flotation tanks for the car, I'll have to stick to my original plan for driving to Scotland.
