Years ago, I read George Effinger's Fire in the Sun and the sequels. It was
very noir, punk, and Algerian. At the time is was very different.
Much of the background was foreign and used the mythology of that
region of the world making it even more fantastical to this reader who
knew nothing of the area/setting.

I enjoy SF mysteries and have been reading J.D. Robb's In Death series.
The newest is Survivor in Death. A young girl is the only survivor when he
family is slaughtered during the night and the professionals who did the job
are now trying to tie up the loose end and kill the child. Lt. Dallas's team
are doing all they can to see that the bad guys get caught first. All these
books take place in a near future New York City (2058-). Society has
changed of course but it's still very recognizable with twists on what's
happening
today.

I'd be glad to pick up some books to look for next time I'm in the library
or bookstore.

What are YOU reading now,
Gayle
