I received word today via a fan listserve that long time
fan editor Bill Bowers died last night. He was the Fan
Guest of Honor at the 1978 Worldcon (Iguanacon) and a
six-time Hugo Award nominee. He was also elected as Trans
Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF) delegate in 1976, but as the
election ended in a tie (with Roy Tackett) and there was
only enough money to send one representative, Bowers
withdrew in favor of Tackett.

I'd known Bill for more than 20 years, though the only time
we crossed paths in the past decade or so was at the annual
Midwestcon in Cincinnati. Every year he was a constant
there, even as his health deteriorated and he became
frailer. But no more. He will be missed.
