Which is about a three hours drive for me. There is a large fan and
writer community around the triangle area--Mark Van Name, Orson Scott
Card, Eric Hale--but three hours is three hours.

Asheville had an active fan community at one time--there still is an
active Star Trek fan group, but there's very little in the way of
organized fandom left.

Darn it.
