Keith,

Get the insurance.  Pick one with a high deductable if you can.  While
having insurance may not lengthen your life expectancy having an
illness without insurance can seriously impact the rest of your life.

I have to agree with others here, while you may be heathy and not
really need it there is the possibility that an accident of a killer flu
could take everything you have and then some IF you can find a
place that will treat someone without insurance.

I don't know what it's like in this area but in RI where we moved
from there was only 1 hospital in the state that took people without
insurance -- all the other hospital's sent the uninsured away to go
to that one hospital.

Also, most insurance plans I've had don't cover eye exams or glasses.
I've found that the places in the mall aren't all that expensive for exam.
Then get the Rx and match with glasses from someplace cheap.
