Of course, why start with the innocent young virgins? Why not get rid of the useless old priests who apparently didn't manage to keep the gods happy? The answer to that is simple enough: people aren't good at thinking, they are much better at "feeling", which makes them much easier to lead around by the emotions, and since the priests are doing the leading, are often supposed to be celibate, and virginity is a condition so easily altered...
