It helps if the original author is still around. The "Man/Kzin Wars" books were actually very good (I think there were 7 of them). They were written by lots of different people, but all with Larry Niven's permission and assistance so they got the details right and didn't interfere with each other. The "feel" was even better than with Niven I think...as he says, he's not into war much and doesn't know a lot about how it's done, but the Kzin are a very warlike species and I don't think he "got" them as well as some of the other authors did. -- Mike B. -- War doesn't determine who's right, only who's left.
