The D.C. City Council (Linda Cropp) and Mayor Williams
have been locking horns over the site for a convention
center hotel for over a year. Two weeks ago, Mayor
Williams finally agreed to let the hotel site resolution
be modified to remove his power to veto the City Council's
chosen site.

The City Council will be entering negotiations with the
owner(s) of the land at the intersection of Massacusetts
Avenue and Ninth Street (southwest corner of the new
convention center) to see if they would be willing to
trade that land for some land at the old convention center
site. If this doesn't work, they will probably end up
building the new hotel at the old convention center site;
about three blocks south of the new convention center.

So, the DC in 2011 Worldcon proto-bid is waiting to see
which site is picked. It doesn't look good for 2011 since
construction at the old site isn't even scheduled to
start until 2009. We will be hosting a party on Thursday,
4 August, at Interaction.

Michael
