Everybody forgets that the "Chapter IV: A New Hope" bit was added to the opening crawl later, it wasn't there in the initial release. I did it, I promised myself I'd make the local opening shows of all the Star Wars films, and I did. I'm not doing that anymore, it's too much like work. Granted, showing up 90 minutes early for a 12:01 AM show isn't as tough as pitching a cot under the ticket window and guarding that first-in-line spot for 16 hours (Empire Strikes Back). Yeah, that first Star Destroyer flyover made the whole house go "whoa!" Say what you like about Lucas, he knew how to make things look big on screen. I tripped over organized fandom (and went to my first con) later that year, in San Diego. Not long after that, I went with friends to see Beatlemania at the very chichi Fox Theatre in San Diego...everyone dressed to the nines, very fancy. After the show, George Popa suggested driving out to Ocean Beach to catch Rocky Horror, and I made the mistake of saying "What's that?". Everybody else, of course, had planned ahead and brought casual clothes. My suit was a real hit with the Rocky crowd.
