Assume that this isn't the first time such a situation has come up, and inquire what the specified procedure for dealing with it is, then follow that? If a procedure doesn't exist because this *is* the first time it's ever come up, I'd ask my boss what he'd prefer I do, and do that. If my boss says he doesn't care, and to just do whatever I think is best, I'd probably go with what the court reporter wrote on the basis that that's the most official source I have access to.
