May I suggest also putting Meridel in contact with Peggy Rae?  She's their
US agent and as such knows them all as well as being the Worldcon Chair
from whom they're getting a lot of advice.  Not only can she connect
Meridel with a lot of people in-country but she may find it helpful to talk
with someone who's experienced in both fannish and anime conventions, US
and Japanese culture, and both languages.

Moreover, PR is heading off to Japan after Westercon to meet with the
Nippon 2007 folks and also test her beginning Japanese.

On the other hand there's a risk that Meridel will be asked to "mow Peggy
Rae's lawn".  Might want to warn her about that if you hope that she'll
complete her studies!
