Subject: [WSFA] Meeting of the Committee on the Capclave Webpage

After the WSFA 1st Friday meeting on July 1, a committee gather to look
into the Capclave webpage and where it should reside. The webmasters
identified three needs that the current setup was not supplying: SSL
(secure socket layer), PHP (server-side HTML scripting language) and MySQL
(database). These pieces would allow Capclave to accept memberships online
both efficiently and safely. The Panix account does not currently give
access to two of these three items, although they are available with a
paying account.

The Capclave webmasters, Paul Haggerty and Gayle Surrette researched the
costs of setting up a separate Capclave webpage and found that while Panix
did provided the needed items above, but would cost $700.00 a year. Two
other ISPs offered the same services for between $60 and $250 dollars a
year (price varies on specials) and in addition had many more times the
amount of hard drive space, transfer amounts and email address than
Panix. Paul and Gayle were asked about the reliability of the sites,
especially in reference to time off line and they found all had uptimes of
higher than 99%.

The committee decided to go with Globat because it was the best service at
the cheapest price and was a system familiar to the webmasters. A test
period will take place and afterwards the Capclave site will be moved to
the new ISP. This is scheduled to happened at the beginning of August,
barring any problems.
