A google image search on <israel cactus> yields 240 images, most of which
look like cactus.

shows a 'sabra cactus', and it looks like a cactus.

Common sense suggests that cactus, or cactus-like plants, would have
become established in suitable dry, hot, desert environments throughout
the world.
