I wonder if the deed was kept in the White House?  If so, it may have been
burned in the war of 1812.

Whether the guy has a deed or not isn't likely to matter.  The US
government has been "squatting" on the land for over 200 years, and I think
any legal owners will have lost any right to object a long time ago.
