Subject: [WSFA] Open House - Zahra at 400 Days (Sept. 17-18)
Reply-To: WSFA members <WSFAlist at WSFA.org>

Hello WSFA,

Sorry this is so late...

We're having a particularly poorly organized open house next
weekend. We'd hoped to have it around the time of Zahra's first
birthday, but it was too hot then, and the dental surgeon had
too recently visited his ministrations upon my mouth.

************************************************************
OPEN HOUSE --- SEPT. 17 & 18, 2005 --- NOON to 8 p.m.
************************************************************
(The Dada may be up later but Mama and Stinkenhind's Monster
will likely vanish shortly after eight).

217 Spring Avenue 301-891-2815
Takoma Park, MD 20912

SPECIAL FEATURES and FERVID IMPORTUNINGS
========================================
For those of you with young children, "The Banjo Man," Frank
Cassel, will be in attendance on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. to play
familiar songs.

Please don't bring presents (that baby has more toys than even *I*
know how to play with :-)).

We'll have some edibles (mostly in the way of snacks), drinkables
and ice cream cake. Libations and food offerings are welcome, if
you must, but I wouldn't bring much more than you can gobble or
slosh at one sitting. Probably dinner will be organized informally
as grim evening lowers.

RSVP or SOME OTHER KIND OF RV
=============================

The mistress of the house would like to get an idea of how many
people will show up (a vast number are invited). I really don't
think it will help, but if you could respond saying "Sunday at
2:55 p.m." or "Maybe on Saturday if my lumbago's better" or "That
sounds like fun, when did you say it was?" she would be grateful.

LOCALITY and DIRECTIONS:
=======================
Our house is a white two-story aluminum sided house, trimmed in
green, with a large magnolia tree in the front yard. It's in the
southeast corner of Takoma Park, roughly equidistant from the D.C.
line (being 4 blocks NE), New Hampshire Avenue (about 3-4 blocks
NW) and the TP-SS Co-Op (South or down the hill). It lies on the
southeast side of Spring (a one block long street running between
Cockerille and Poplar Avenues, and no relation to Spring Street
in Silver Spring), second house from its corner with Poplar.

DIRECTIONS (such as they are):

>From the Western Beltway:

 - Exit to GEORGIA AVE SOUTH (Rte 97)
about 2 miles, just after Silver Spring Ave, and before
ducking beneath the RR underpass, and where a sign points
     you to MD Rte 410...
- Turn LEFT onto SLIGO AVE. (a block)
- Turn RIGHT onto FENTON STREET (a few blocks)
- Turn LEFT onto MD-410/PHILADELPHIA AVE (1.1 miles)
- Turn LEFT onto CARROLL AVE/MD-195/410 (a short block)
(DON'T follow Carroll to the left; stay straight for
    another half block on...
- ETHAN ALLEN AVE (MD-410) (the merest half a block, with the
Takoma Park-Silver Spring Co-Op on your right)
- Turn RIGHT onto SYCAMORE AVE (1 short block)
- Turn RIGHT onto COLUMBIA AVE (1 block)
- Turn LEFT onto POPLAR AVE (0.3 miles)
    (past Elm Avenue)
- Turn RIGHT onto SPRING AVE (we are on the left)

...A simpler route:

 - Exit to UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD (Rte 193) (under 2 miles)
     pass PINEY BRANCH
 - Turn right on CARROLL AVENUE (1.3 miles)
 - Turn left on ETHAN ALLEN AVE (MD 410), follow above
directions (RT. on SYCAMORE, RT. on COLUMBIA, etc.)...

>From the Eastern Beltway (or I-95 or the nonspecific North):

 - Exit to NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE (MD RTE 650 S) (3.5 miles)
     Pass E-W Highway (MD-410) and...
 - Turn RIGHT onto POPLAR AVENUE (0.3 miles)
 - Turn LEFT onto SPRING AVENUE
...second house on the left (as above)

Through DC (in a general way):

Try to come northeast on NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE or (thanks Bill
Squire for pointing out this excellent little road that
parallels N.H. Ave a couple blocks West, and runs right
into Cockerille a couple blocks from Spring) KANSAS AVE
     or I suppose PINEY BRANCH.

We are a leisurely 20 minute walk from the Takoma Metro Station.
One good route, mostly downhill, is:

 - Follow Carroll to the (second) Savory Cafe
 - Right on Columbia
 - Right on Pine
 - Left on Montgomery
 - Right on Hickory
 - Left on Elm
 - Right on Poplar
 - Right on Spring

Be seeing you,
--
