The minutes of yesterday's meeting are available online,
right after the minutes of the September 2nd meeting, at
http://www.wsfa.org/minutes.htm

Please inform me if there are any errors or omissions. Thanks.

It's interesting to compare this to my day job. Ted White and I are
currently proofreading different days of a transcript of an official
NASD arbitration hearing with about half a million dollars at stake.
The transcript is wretched, with vast numbers of mistranscriptions,
misattributions, and typos, including the wrong date. (It's the first
time I've ever seen "tried" spelled "tride." The papers provided by
the client neglect to give essential information such as the dates,
and the names of witnesses. The audio is far worse than what I got
with the $20 pocket tape recorder I bought at Best Buy, that I had
situated on a cardboard box on the floor, with a five-year-old boy
the closest person in front of it.

Two announcements I forgot to make at the meeting:

* Capclave program participant Andrew Fox's seven cats have all been
rescued from his flood-damaged New Orleans house. They had survived
without food or clean water for over two weeks.

* The WSFA Journal, as always, seeks more submissions: Reviews of books
and movies, convention reports, fannish autobiographies, reports on
new discoveries and inventions, fiction, brainstorming, and almost
anything else except current American politics.

I won't repeat anything here that's in the minutes; please read them.

Other news:

This list has a new subscriber: Tamara Griesel. At the same time,
I unsubscribed Bill Squire, since his email had been bouncing, so we
still have 48 subscribers, including nine of the ten officers. See
http://www.wsfa.org/list/subscribers.htm for a list.

Welcome, Tamara. And please tell me whether I have the spellings of
your future daughter's potential names correct. Thanks.

Does anyone know who is in charge of the Capclave restaurant guide,
and whether that person got the vegetarian guide from Carolyn last
night? Thanks.

People have been continuing to try to send HTML email to this list,
despite at least one reminder every month that all such email is
blocked from this list. When I was between jobs, I manually un-HTMLd
such messages and reposted them, but I have less free time now. If
someone wants to make a motion at the next meeting that I resume doing
so, I'd be glad to do so, but it will come out of time I spend doing
things of greater use to WSFA. I'm reluctant to spend five minutes
to save someone else five seconds. Especially since HTML email is
blocked from increasingly many places, as nearly all of it is spams
or viruses. If your mailer defaults to sending HTML, please see
http://www.expita.com/nomime.html for instructions on how to turn it
off. I strongly recommend turning it off for everyone other than
those (if any) who explicitly say they prefer receiving HTML email.
Thanks.
