Amogst other things, it makes it easier for folks to respond to your
film party announcments; not everyone remembered to reply directly to
you, rather they posted to the list, then they were reminded... and then
the tickets were, and the poor WSFAn became depressed, and decided to
move to some email free island in the middle of the Pacific (you'll see
them in the background of  "Lost".)
