Drew, who works for DOE, should know more about this than I, but I just
finished writing my editorial for SFRevu (www.sfrevu.com) and closed with a
link to this event, which I think is totally cool.

It's a solar village being constructed on the mall which will be open from
October 7-16.

The site says:

Designed by Students, Powered by the Sun

The Solar Decathlon brings 18 college and university teams from around the
globe to participate in this unparalleled solar competition to design,
build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered
home. Student teams built their solar houses on their respective campuses
and will transport them to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where they
will form a solar village.
