And I was amazed at how many people showed up at these panels, as both the 10pm and 11pm programs had good turn outs.  It is an option for those who don't care to go to the parties.

Not programming through parties is definitely worth considering, though lots
of cons have some sort of late night stuff. I had to leave my own party to
got to the panel, but I kind of enjoyed it. The party was still there when I
got back.

I think the reason for having late panels was to fit more stuff in with the
space constraints we were working with.
