The new owner sounds like he is really trying to attract science fiction readers - he has already stocked a number of genre small press books. I told the manager I would inform WSFA about the expanded SF emphasis, and maybe something could be noted in the WSFA Journal. Perhaps we should also try to get the stores to stock a few copies of Future Washington? Here's a copy of the new press release for the stores: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 20, 2005 Rik Corwin, the new owner of Burke Used Books of Falls Church and Burke, Virginia, has announced the expansion of the store FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 20, 2005 Rik Corwin, the new owner of Burke Used Books of Falls Church and Burke, Virginia, has announced the expansion of the store's offerings to include new and backlist issues of current and classic science fiction, mystery and horror titles from a variety of noted small presses. This enhances Burke's already-established reputation as a venue for vintage science fiction and horror. Burke becomes the only retail outlet for books of this kind in the area. Publishers to be represented initially are Arkham House, Fedogan and Bremer, Naked Snake Press and many others. Burke will also handle many small press genre magazines, chapbooks, and featured books from noted authors Tim Curran, Tom Piccirilli, Michael Arnzen, H. P. Lovecraft, Donald Wandrei and many more. Burke's Falls Church location (in the shopping center at 7395 Lee Highway; 703-206-9230) has already been expanded; expansion at the Burke location is expected by late December. Note also that an in-store signing with noted authors Elizabeth Blue, Barton Paul Levenson, Fredrick Louis Richardson, A. B. Wallace and Jacob Haddon (President of The Mid-Atlantic Horror Professionals) has been scheduled at the Falls Church store for the 30th of October, 2005, between 2 and 4 pm to benefit Reading is Fundamental.
