The message I post here every month includes:

To help keep mailboxes from overflowing, and to keep from stuffing
everyone's mailboxes with multiple copies of the same stuff over and
over again, please don't include more of the message you're replying
to than is necessary to establish context. Messages have often
contained ALL of the message they were replying to, which in turn
contained ALL of the message THAT message was replying to, several
levels deep! No matter how wonderful a message is, nobody wants to
get multiple copies of it. Thank you.

It is not dishonest to quote only part, or even none, of the message
you are replying to. Everyone here has just seen the previous message
for themselves, unless the sender is replying to a very old message.
Which Elspeth, of course, was not.

Nobody should ever be publicly accused of dishonesty without very,
very good reasons, and only after ruling out all other possibilities,
and after discussing it privately with the accused, or, if that's not
possible, or doesn't lead to a mutually satisfactory resolution, with
someone trusted by both parties.
