That was me, not Ernest. Not a correction to the minutes, but to the data given at the meeting: "Rebecca asked when free parking is available across the street. Mike Walsh and Bob both said 6 pm." I believe the meters said 7pm. Back to minutes corrections: "Mike Bartman asked if we have rates yet." I don't think that was me...but I'm not sure who it was. I do remember it being asked about though. Third Friday minutes: "Mike Bartman suggested that we change our First Friday meeting place, since several members are no longer comfortable at the Gillilands'. He said Sam Pierce had volunteered his house, but it was 45 miles from DC." I don't believe I suggested that we change the First Friday meeting place (if you have exact language from the tape that says otherwise, I won't argue, but that's not how I remember it, or intended it). I raised the question of whether the First Friday meeting would be held at the Gilliland's due to the number of people saying that they would not attend a meeting there (not lack of comfort there, but lack of willingness to attend meetings there), and mentioned that I'd been told that the bylaws said the question had to be settled at the Third Friday meeting by the president naming the time and place of the next meeting. John Madigan asked if the Gillilands had said the meeting couldn't be held at their house anymore, and I said that I had heard nothing to that effect and as far as I knew the offer was as open as ever (Sam said roughly the same thing, with more authority, at about the same time). I also said that I, personally, had no problem with the meeting being there as usual, but that since several others did have problems, that the question of whether the meeting should be held there was something that needed to be raised. Suggesting that there is an issue that needs discussion and settling is not the same as suggesting that we move the meeting location. i.e. "Should the meeting location be changed?" vs. "The meeting location should be changed." "Someone said another concern is that churches, restaurants, and libraries don't tend to remain open late enough; we might need to meet earlier and curtail our social hour." I don't think that I was the only one, but I did bring this up I think. "No vote having taken place, the next meeting will be at the Gillilands', as usual." I don't think there was cause for a vote. The bylaws say (or so I've been informed) that the president will specify the time and place of the next meeting before the previous one is adjourned, not that it will be voted on. Sam did so. There was no motion to change the location, so again, no vote was in order. Since a vote wasn't relevant, saying that there was no vote seems unnecessary. There wasn't an attack by Velociraptors either, and no mention of that lack was made. Given how emotionally trying both of these meetings were for you, and that the tape ran out before the meeting did, the minutes are remarkably accurate. Well done. I hope that all future secretaries will use your performance as a reference standard for accuracy and professionalism. I'm not sure how they might exceed your standards, but we can hope that they will attempt to match your performance. -- Mike B. -- "Every scar, emotional, physical, spiritual, means you survived to live and love and play another day." -- mle
