All I know is that a few years ago, when several of my friends had AOL
accounts and "upgraded" them to -- what was it? 6.0? -- they had
considerable difficulty finding ways to send plain text emails to the
lists we were all on. And it seemed to get more difficult with each
"upgrade." At least one of my friends "downgraded" to an earlier (maybe
4.0) version so that he could send plain text comfortably. (But most of
my friends dropped AOL. It is, after all, the most expensive of the
dial-up ISPs, and its pages are filled with ads.)
