I'm not sympathetic to any of NYC's government
employee unions. I don't like management either; it's
hard to know which is worse--the Board of Education
or the teachers' union. Neither cares about performance.

My special ire is for the school custodian's union, who
by setting up work rules never really had to do their job,
and could make amazing amounts of overtime money.

Anyhow, remember that the world was destroyed when
"A man named Albert Shanker got hold of a nuclear
warhead."

Are MTA employees city employees, or are they paid by
the MTA itself, which is one of those quasi-governmental
agencies that Robert Moses set up in the 30s and 40s?
Read "The Power Broker", by Robert A. Caro for details.
