The British tech news site "The Register"
<http://www.theregister.co.uk/> has an occasional item filed under "The
Rise of the Machines", chronicling the march to power of various "smart"
devices, and their efforts to supplant/wipe out/seriously annoy humans.
The first shot in this war seems to be "intelligent" public toilets.

They don't seem to have an index for these stories, but they show up in
the "Bootnotes" category: <http://www.theregister.co.uk/odds/bootnotes/>

(Note -- if you like British-style headlines, this is the site for you.)
