If you got hit with this latest problem, the WMF thing, it is definitely
not your fault...it's MicroSoft's and whoever wrote the particular exploit
code.  MS created the security flaw, and some bastard took advantage of
it.  All you would have had to do is be unlucky enough to trip over the
wrong file...what you were doing with it was most likely something
perfectly normal, like looking at a web page.

The only real defense against this sort of thing is not to run an OS that
has that sort of vulnerability...but given the way the unwashed masses have
chosen to take us all with respect to personal computers, your choices in
that area are limited and there are always tradeoffs in the areas of easy
access to software, learning, cost, etc..  I run several different OSs, for
different reasons, myself...including Windows.  As time permits though, I
will be looking more into getting my Windows apps to work on Linux (many do
today with various techniques, such as emulators and virtual
machines).  With XP MS took a turn I'm not willing to follow them down
other than on a laptop and Linux is more powerful anyway.
