Along with a table full of other popular fiction that seems to have not moved as well as B&N - or the publishers - thought it would. And if you have one of those B&N Member Cards, another 10% off. Now, you may ask: What is going on, why so many *new* books at 50% off? It's called "Remaindering in place". Essentially B&N, Borders... when they discover that the book buying public hasn't quite agreed with their choices and there are "lots & lots" of copies of a book they thought was going to be Big, the publisher issues a credit to the store/chain to allow them to mark the book down to 50% off and still make atleast 40% on the book. The bookstore doesn't want to pack them up, ship them off. The publisher doesn't really want them back. So, mark 'em down. I do not know how long the 50% offer will last - until a certain level of inventory is reached, or what. But best to call you local B&N and check it out. mjw p.s. ... speaking of selling books... with the exception of the signed copies, The Separation by Christopher Priest is gone. I'll be doing a reprint. Starred reviews in PW and Booklist sure help...
