I think it depends what aspect you look at. They do try to keep the
science accurate enough...at least the terminology (no mixing up "galaxy"
and "solar system" the way Firefly did) and what is currently known or
theorized about things like worm holes, relativity, spacial distances,
etc., which is something Star Trek was pretty sloppy with. They also don't
dumb down the plots too much to cater the the science illiterate (like the
episode where they exploded a star by feeding it an open star gate...if you
don't understand how stars work, that would have been pretty mystifying).
On the other hand, they do keep "entertaining" at the top of the priority
list, even if that ends up having the characters acting out of character
for the position they are supposed to be in (like O'Neil joking or
insulting Earth's allies and enemies, or government officials, at
inappropriate times).
