Regretfully, was never offered the books <g>.

OTOH, the books that have come "over the transom" to OEB have for the
most part been of a quality to make Sword of Shanrra read like
Dostoevsky.

And as a side note, there was in one of the publishing trade journals a
few years ago comments from various editors who did turn down the Potter
books.  In a decidedly CYA mode they all pretty much said they'd still
turn it down.

Though I digress, the person who brought Rowling to the US, also
brought Philip Pullman to the US (different publisher).  The first book
in "His Dark Materials" trilogy is outstanding.
