I've read the Scalzi and am reading the Wilson.

The Scalzi was quite good.  Cory Doctorow called it "Forever War with
better sex, Starship Troopers without the lectures" which is a fair
description.  See:

So far the Wilson is quite good.  He's a good writer, his books have
had Big Ideas, but with a focus on people.

And I should also note that Steve Stiles made the final ballot.
