Then why not go with new characters?  It's not like the Star Trek universe
is all mined out for stories...

Oh, yeah...Hollywood.  Can't do anything creative...might not work
out.  Best to go with something that already did work (Scooby Do, Jetsons,
Flintstones, Rocky 14...) and never mind that that was then and this is now...
