He had been a fan since the '50s, wrote SF professionally in the '70s, wrote "The Clubhouse" in AMAZING STORIES in the late '70s, and has been active on the major fannish e-lists in recent times. He was one of my best friends for the better part of the nearly 50 years I've known him; his daughter and my daughter are best friends. He died today in Arlington Hospital at about 1:00 PM. He had been admitted Memorial Day with one problem (relating to a prior surgery) and developed another, pneumonia. Earlier this week his kidneys began to fail. But none of us thought he wouldn't overcome all this, with the benefits of modern medical science. We were wrong. --Ted White
