Then are B.A.s who are flipping burgers at McDeath enslaved because they
aren't free to live without working?

I grant your point in general, but making designations too broad sorta
wrecks the ability to discriminate.  Uriah Heep was a prisoner; Uncle Tom
was a slave.  Both of them may have been forced to work, but they weren't
in the same category.
