I think they ought to leave it for a year or two, just to make sure there are no problems with the replacement bridge. Consider the chaos caused when one of Boston's new multi-billion dolllar Big Dig tunnels recently proved unusable, and the route it had replaced had already been torn down. But I admire the idea. Someday I hope they'll build a better Metro system, and let me blow up the old one. This morning's commute, not untypically, had *two* major delays. They were single tracking elsewhere on the Orange Line for some reason, slowing everything down, and then there was a sick passenger in a train up ahead, which of course means all trains on the line had to come to a stop (between two stations, lest someone get off) until he gets all better. Not that it affected me, but yesterday much of the Red Line was shut down for hours because of small plastic box found on the tracks. They had to wait for a police "investigation" which apparently consisted of doing nothing whatsoever for three hours, followed by blowing it up. Conclusion: It wasn't a bomb after all, just a random piece of trash, just like the previous hundred times this has happened. Who'da thunk? Last week there were major delays because of the heat. This evening, surprisingly, there were no delays. I was tempted to report it, since we're asked to report anything suspicious or unusual.
