Nolan has said the movie is more of an adaptation of the book.  Priest
saw the screenplay, atleast an early version of it and was pleased.
It's not really possible to film an entire novel and have it run a
reasonable amount of time.

Anyway, I suspect the film explains things more than the book, the book
does require close reading.  A beach book it ain't.
