Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2006 21:53:24 -0400 (EDT) From: "Keith F. Lynch" <kfl at KeithLynch.net> To: WSFA Members <WSFAlist at KeithLynch.net> Subject: [WSFA] This list is 56 months old today Reply-To: WSFA members <WSFAlist at KeithLynch.net> This list, intended for the use of past and present members of the Washington Science Fiction Association, is 56 months (four and two-thirds years) old today. HTML messages and messages with attachments cannot be posted to the list, for several reasons, including the fact that they can convey viruses and web bugs, which can reveal your private information to others. If your mailer defaults to sending HTML, please see http://www.expita.com/nomime.html for instructions on how to turn it off. I suggest you turn it off for everyone, since more and more people are deleting all such email unread. (The August 2003 Consumer Reports magazine is one of many sources that recommends deleting HTML email unread to cut down on spam.) This list is not an official WSFA project, however I recommend that anything sent to the official WSFA email list on Yahoo! also be sent to this one, since many past and present WSFAns will have nothing to do with Yahoo!. Archives of this list are at http://KeithLynch.net/wsfa/list/. Please do not link any public web pages to these archives, or mention them, or the email address of this list, on any other mailing list or any newsgroup. Please do not forward messages sent to this list to anyone except past and present WSFA members without the permission of the sender. (You're welcome to mention the *existence* of this list to anyone.) The archives are indexed by date and by sender, and also include a list of current subscribers and their email addresses. That list would be useful in reconstructing this list on another platform if I'm run over by the proverbial bus. Please keep in mind that there are no tone-of-voice or body language cues in email, so messages can often appear much blunter than they were intended. Please interpret messages in the best light possible, and before sending a message please write it as if it might be read in the worst light possible. Never post while angry. To help keep mailboxes from overflowing, and to keep from stuffing everyone's mailboxes with multiple copies of the same stuff over and over again, please don't include more of the message you're replying to than is necessary to establish context. Messages have often contained ALL of the message they were replying to, which in turn contained ALL of the message THAT message was replying to, several levels deep! No matter how wonderful a message is, nobody wants to get multiple copies of it. Thank you. Also, please don't forward "PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW" messages without first personally confirming that the message is both accurate and timely. Remember, it's your own reputation on the line. Please don't post more than one or two paragraphs from any copyrighted source. Instead, please just post the URL. Thanks. Any past or present WSFA member can: * Subscribe to this list. * Post to this list, even if they're not subscribed. And can do so from any email address. * Read messages in the archives, even if they're not subscribed. Please don't post anything that you don't want to be seen by all WSFA members, now and in the future. But don't assume that what you post here will be seen by all WSFA members, or by any one of them in particular. Please don't CC any messages to non-subscribers without a good reason for each one. WSFAns who aren't subscribed to the list do not wish to receive email meant for all WSFAns. Subscribes, unsubscribes, and archive updates are handled manually. Usually within a day. Except archive updates, which are usually once or twice a month. Also see the article about this list in the October 2004 WSFA Journal, at http://www.wsfa.org/journal/j04/a/index.htm#wel 66 people have posted 11,529 messages to the list, an average of 7 per day. 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 averaged 12, 4, 6, and 9 messages per day, respectively. 2006 has averaged 4 messages a day so far. There are currently 47 subscribers, including eight of the ten officers. In the past month nobody has subscribed, unsubscribed, or changed their email address. The most noteworthy thing that's happened in the last month is that Mike Walsh's new address, mjw at press.jhu.edu, has finally pulled ahead of his old address, mjw at mail.press.jhu.edu, with 1222 to 1195 postings. Also this month, I pulled ahead of his old address, with 1200 postings (including this one). But if you exclude my regularly monthly messages such as this one, then he's in both first and second place. Here are all the past and present subscribers and senders, along with the number of messages they have sent and their email address. The email address shown is the one they receive postings on. All past and present WSFA members (including non-subscribers) can post to the list from any email address. Email addresses in parentheses are the address a non-subscriber last posted from, or a former subscriber last subscribed from, and may no longer be valid addresses.
