Ignoring bad things and hoping they'd go away *epitomized* the "Good Germans." It's what the phrase *means*. And I'm ghoddamned sick and tired of hearing people invoke "Godwin's Law" like a knee jerk. What in hell good was Nazi Germany if not as an object lesson for humanity and history? To reflexively ignore the aptness of such comparisons is indeed to try to ignore a bad thing and hope it will go away. But then, I lived through World War II.
