He was 98. His most > recent book was *The Stonenhenge Gate*, published in 2005. I've enjoyed and collected his books, but one of my favorite of Williamson's works was "Beyond Mars," which wasn't a novel but a comic strip, beautifully illustrated by Lee Elias. It only ran in New York's Daily News for about three years. Beyond Mars was a nice counterpoint to more traditional s.f. strips like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers in that the hero, Mike Flint, wasn't a glamorous protagonist, like those two golden boys, but more of an ordinary working-stiff trying to scratch out a living in the asteroid belt. It all had had a very realistic, slice of future-life, feel to it. I was happy to tell Williamson that, and got his autograph on a paperback collection of Beyond Mars. --Steve Stiles
