I was incredibly pleased when he agreed to be a GoH at the 2003 WFC in
DC, even though he really didn't expect to attend (tho at one point
...). I was able to talk him into it not to have him as a big name GoH,
but to _honor_ him for 75 years of writing. His first published story
was late 1928.
In my own way I was rather amazed exchanging email with him, not so much
for his age, but the fact his life covered so much our technology: from
Connestoga wagon, moving from and to a Territory.... It was one of
those "sense of wonder" moments.

Jack Williamson died this morning, at home. He was 98. His most
recent book was *The Stonenhenge Gate*, published in 2005.
