On the average, in the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere, the
days around Jan. 25 are the coldest days of year.  For most people,
winter is probably the least favorite season, and this time of the winter
season is just about when people have already had enough of winter, and
yet know only too well that most of the winter still lies ahead.  Even
Groundhog Day is a week away.
