It's been "amusing" every time that's happened since the days of
MS-DOS...when their assembler wasn't compatible with prior versions
of their assembler (but Borland's Turbo-Assembler was compatible with
all versions of MS assembler, proving that it was
possible...). Borland was even compatible with the *bugs* in MS
Assembler...just turn on "quirks" mode and you were good to go.
There's a very good reason why techies tend to think MS stands for
"Mediocre Software"...
