Here's the ugly kitten story I promised a few months ago.

The Ugly Kitten

(a double-dactyl by Samuel Lubell, with apologies to Howard Waldrop)

=93Dat ain=92t no kitten,=94 Da said, when he saw Kitty=92s new baby.

=93Is so,=94 I said. =93What else could it be?=94

=93It so ugly,=94 Da said.

=93No,=94 I protested. =93It is a nice kitten, just different.=94

=93It got yellow feathers,=94 Da said.

=93It doesn=92t fly!=94 I said.

=93It got a beak,=94 Da said.

=93But it acts like Kitty is its mother,=94 I pointed out.

=93So it a very dumb bird,=94 Da said.

That=92s why we named the ugly kitten Dodo.

Later, Da was cleaning the floor at the school where he worked and told=20
some professor there about the ugly kitten. Da said the professor got=20
very excited so Da said he=92d bring Dodo in the next day for a checkup.

But it was too late. Our dog Spot had got at him when I was in school.=20
Spot sometimes chased Kitty or her kittens around. But this was the=20
first time he ate one.

We said, =93Bad dog=94 to Spot and buried the remains. The professor guy =

came by that weekend and wanted to dig Dodo up, but we forgot where we=20
planted him. He left one very sad professor.

So that was the end of the ugly kitten.
