Paul Melko Wins Compton Crook Award:

Paul Melko has won the 2009 Compton Crook Award, also known as the Compton
Crook/ Stephen Tall Award, for his novel Singularity's Ring. The Crook =
Award
is presented by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society each year to the =
best
novel of the year, by a first time SF novelist, based on a vote by the
membership. The Award comes with a $1000.00 prize and complimentary trip =
to
Balticon, the Maryland Regional Science Fiction Convention, where the =
winner
is hosted in triumph. Paul's fiction has previously appeared in various
magazines and anthologies. Singularity's Ring, is of course his first =
novel,
and was released from Tor in February 2008. The Award Plaque and check =
will
be presented during opening ceremonies at Balticon on Friday, May 22, 2009
at approximately 8:00 p.m. in the Main Ballroom to be followed by a "Face
Time" event/reception where the convention attendees will congratulate Mr.
Melko on his win. The Crook Award is named for SF author Compton Crook, =
who
used the nom de plume Stephen Tall, and died in 1981. He was a long-time
