As far as vampire series go, I was not impressed with the Twilight
books. I would highly recommend these two series, however.

The Hollows series by Kim Harrison starts with "Dead Witch Walking"
and is a very well done alternate history. You can find out more at:
http://www.kimharrison.net/

The Southern Vamp series by Charlien Harris has been made into an HBO
series called True Blood and is in its second season. Although
characters are similar, the TV show does wander away from the books
about halfway through the first season. They are both very well done,
however. The author's website is:http://www.charlaineharris.com/

Just tossing in my double-farthing's worth.
